  • In DECENTRALISED energy, the emphasis shifts toward solid-state conversion technologies (PV, batteries, solid oxide fuel cells), meaning solid-phase materials dominate.
  • In CENTRALISED energy, liquid-phase energy carriers (fossil fuels, water/steam systems) still play a significant role due to the dominance of thermal engines.
  • Gas-phase materials are essential in both, but more commonly involved in reforming or combustion; increasingly important for hydrogen in both models.
